Kaiserslautern Center for Advanced Spin Engineering
The Cluster of Excellence CASE (Kaiserslautern Center for Advanced Spin Engineering) has submitted a full proposal for the final selection round of the excellence initiative of the German Federal and State Governments (2nd phase, 2012-2017). The CASE proposal was submitted by TU Kaiserslautern, with co-applicants being the Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz and the Max Planck Institute for Polymer Research. Members of CASE are scientists and their research groups from the areas of Physics, Chemistry and Engineering. External institutions such as the Fraunhofer Institute for Physical Measurement Techniques, the Institut für Oberflächen- und Schichtanalytik GmbH (IFOS, Institute for Surface and Thin Film Analysis), and the Institut für Verbundwerkstoffe GmbH (IVW, Institute for Composite Materials) are cooperation partners.
The organization, management and other elements of the infrastructure of CASE are built on the procedures and statutes of the state research center OPTIMAS and its predecessors. Moreover, CASE incorporates crucial contributions from the (state-funded) Priority Research Areas for Nanostructured Catalysts (NanoKat) and Advanced Materials Engineering (AME).
